DX EXTENSIONS

AFTERCARE

Brushing

Use a boar bristle brush. Start brushing from the ends of the hair and work your way to the root. Be gentle, brushing too hard can cause breakage. Brush your hair multiple times throughout the day.

Washing

Wash hair 1-2 times / week using shampoo and conditioner that is sulfate free. Overwashing hair can lead to extensions drying out. Apply conditioner from the middle of the hair to the ends.

Shampoo + Conditioner

Avoid dry shampoos, purple shampoos, or hair masks that say keratin, bonding, repair, or strengthening. Products that include keratin will lead to breakage (think straw) and dry your extensions out. Instead, use products that say moisture/hydrate. Using a moisture mask weekly will also help prolong the life of your extensions.

Drying

Immediately after washing, towel dry hair and apply a moisturizing leave in conditioner and thermal / blow dry protectants. Your hair is most vulnerable when wet, so drying immediately will help avoid breakage to your natural hair and extensions. Always avoid going to bed with wet hair. This will cause matting or breakage.

Styling

Treat your extensions like your own hair. Use a moisturizing oil daily since the hair will slowly lose oil as it is no longer attached to the donor. Limit heat styling. Your extensions will dry out quicker with more heat use. Prep your hair and extensions with a thermal heat protectant when using any heat tools . Keep hot tool temperatures at 350 degrees or lower.

Sleeping

Keep your extensions in a low and loose ponytail or braid when sleeping. Use a silk pillow case and remember to dry your hair completely before bed.

Winters + Dry Climates

Wearing hoodies, coats or bulky clothing will cause excessive bunching & matting on your extensions. Brushing more throughout the day will help prevent this. I helps to always have a brush on hand. Remember to brush gently, rough brushing will cause breakage.

Chlorine, Salt Water, Hard Water

Avoid swimming in chlorine or ocean water. DX hair is not reliable if exposed. It is recommended to have your extensions removed prior to vacations when hair will be exposed to these environments. Use soft water if possible. Hard water can strip your hair’s color.

Sunscreen

Sunscreen with discolor extensions, turning them a pink/orange color. Avoid exposing the hair to sunscreen, including makeup products with sunscreen.

Move Ups

Schedule a move up appointment every 8 weeks. Prolonging time between move ups will not only cause damage to your natural hair, but also to your extensions.
